
Helen Whitehead, Vocal Sounds Pianist
Helen Whitehead is a recently retired music teacher with a lifelong dedication to music education and performance. She holds an honours degree in music from Manchester University and a postgraduate teaching qualification from Bretton Hall. Helen taught in high schools and primary schools for many years before becoming Head of Curriculum Music for Salford Music and Performing Arts Service, where she oversaw a large staff team and provided training for specialist music teachers in primary schools. In 2012, she transitioned to freelance music education, leading children’s choirs, teaching piano privately, and continuing her curriculum work in schools.

In retirement, Helen remains deeply engaged in music and community work. She is an active member of her local church and serves as a charity trustee for a school in Uganda, regularly visiting to support new projects. A passionate pianist, Helen now plays for enjoyment with a personal goal to complete Grieg’s Piano Concerto. She is committed to the development of Vocal Sounds, where she cherishes working with a delightful group of people for whom the choir holds special meaning.
